Miami, Florida Driver’s Ed FAQs

How do I apply for a driver’s license in Miami, Florida?

Minors 14 and a half years old and up can start applying for a driver’s license by obtaining a learner’s permit. Aside from passing a vision and hearing test, you will need to provide required documents like social security number, proof of identity, and proof of residential address.

More importantly, you would need proof of Traffic Law and Substance Abuse Education or TLSAE course completion. You will also need to pass your Class E knowledge exam.

You can prepare for both of these with a state-approved driving school.

Drivers 16 years old and above can apply for a Florida driver’s license provided that they have held their learner's permit for more than 12 months or if they are at least 18 years old, whichever comes first.

Take note that adult driver applicants are also required to show proof of TLSAE course completion.

Should I attend an in-person or online driving school in Miami, Florida?

Especially with the COVID-19 pandemic, many applicants are now choosing online driving schools in Miami, Florida for safety and convenience reasons. You'll have complete control of your study schedule with 24/7 access to online resources.

There are also many online driving schools (like the ones on our list) that offer flexible and engaging learning formats at a lower price.

Even if that seems like the best option, some just work best in an actual classroom. In that case, it is better to attend an in-person driving school.

Or, if you want a complete package, including the required driver’s ed course and behind-the-wheel training, in-person is also a good idea.

Conclusion

All Florida drivers must show proof of TLSAE course completion when applying for a learner’s permit. So the question is – which is better for you, traditional or online driving school?

With our research, we hope that we helped you find the best school for you.
