Do you need to check on your Wyoming license status after receiving a traffic ticket?

Do you not know how to request a Wyoming driving record?

If so, then we’re here to help.

In this article, we’re going to give you a complete 2022 guide on how to get your driving record in Wyoming. Not only that, but we’ll also tell you about the different types of Wyoming driving records and the Wyoming point system.

So buckle up and let’s go!

What is A Wyoming Driving Record Used For?

Wyoming driving records contain a detailed account of your driving history, license status, tickets, and convictions.

These can be used by insurance agencies, employers, government agencies, and courts to assess your reliability as a driver.

You can also request for your driving record to check on your driving status, see how many demerit points you’ve accumulated, check for errors, and many more.

What are the Types of Driving Records in Wyoming?

You can request three (3) types of driving records at the Wyoming DMV:

Three-year driving record

This record holds information about three years of your driving history. It includes:

  • Moving violations
  • Proof of financial responsibility withdrawal
  • Administrative per se and refusals
  • Uninsured accidents
  • Compulsory insurance violations
  • Nonresident violator compact violations

Five-year driving record

You can find five years of your driving history in this record, including:

  • Driving under the influence
  • Reckless driving
  • Accident judgments
  • Vehicular homicide
  • Leaving the scene of an injury accident
  • Felony, which is a result of the manner of driving
  • Transporting liquor to minor convictions and withdrawals

Ten-year driving record

As you might expect, this shows your driving history for the past 10 years.

Some employers and organizations will require you to provide a ten-year record. In that case, make sure to indicate this in your written request.

How to Request A Driving Record in Wyoming?

You can request a Wyoming driving record:

  • In-person
  • By mail

Unfortunately, Wyoming doesn’t allow you to request your driving record online.

With that in mind, let’s get into the details on how to request for it in person or by mail.

In-person

You may request your Wyoming driving record in person at any local Wyoming driver examination office.

To get a copy, you will need to provide the following:

  • Wyoming driver’s license
  • Valid ID card

Most offices will accept cash and checks, so make sure to ask beforehand if you pay with a credit card. You will be able to get your driving record immediately upon payment.

Mail

For WY record requests by mail, send a completed Release for Driving Record and Personal Information (DSFR-11e) form, the needed documents (driver’s license/valid ID), and a $5 payment (check or money order) to:

Wyoming Department of Transportation, Driver Services

Attn: Marianne Zivkovich

5300 Bishop Blvd

Cheyenne, WY 82009

Also, you can send a request letter detailing your name, date of birth, and social security number, or driver’s license.

Once received, expect your driving record to be sent within ten business days. It will come to you through the mail.

What Can I Do With My Wyoming Driving Record?

You will need to keep a close eye on your driving record for errors and accumulated violations.

If you find any error, make sure to contact your local Wyoming DMV to tell them about it. I mean, you don’t want to be accused of these violations when/if you never committed them or they already expired.

As for accumulated violations, too many traffic violations on your Wyoming driving record can lead to a suspended or revoked license. And who wants that?

The great news is that you can avoid getting more violations added to your record by taking a defensive driving course.

Yes, this course can help you dismiss a traffic ticket. Just note that you will need to ask your court handler if you’re eligible for ticket dismissal through classroom or online traffic schools.

What are the Benefits of Taking A Wyoming Defensive Driving Course?

While you can’t remove points on your driving record, you can attend a court-approved traffic school to lower the number of infractions listed on your record.

Aside from that, completing this course may allow you to:

  • Fulfill a court-ordered requirement
  • Lower auto insurance premiums
  • Improve defensive driving techniques and knowledge
  • Build driver confidence

Conclusion

Did you receive a traffic ticket in Wyoming?

While Wyoming doesn’t follow a point system, your driving privileges will be limited after accumulating too many of these violations.

To avoid license suspension, revocation, or cancellation, request a copy of your driving record in person or by mail to check your statute.

If you see that you have a lot of violations already, you can opt to take a defensive driving course to avoid even more convictions being added.

And remember, online traffic schools are always there to help you with that. Just make sure to ask your court handler first.
