What are Missouri Driving Records Used For?
A Missouri driving record will contain a detailed account of your license status, driving history, traffic violations, and traffic accidents.
This information can be used by:
Employers for background screening
Insurance agencies for reviewing claims and adjusting your policy rate
Government agencies or federal, civil, and local courts for legal proceedings or investigations
Note that accumulating too many points on your Missouri driving record can make it difficult for you to find a job or get insurance discounts. You might even have your license suspended. As much as possible, you would like to avoid that.

The 2 Ways to Request for a Driving Record in Missouri
In this section, we’ll walk you through how to request the 2 types of Missouri driving records.
How to Request a Driver Record without Personal Information
If you decide to request in person, go to any local Missouri license office and request for your driving record. Make sure to bring your driver’s license and cash for the driving record fee ($2.85) and processing fee (around $2.00).
If you want to do it by mail or fax, you will need to send a written request addressed to the Driver License Record Center at:
Driver License Record Center

Jefferson City, MO 65101
Make sure to include the name, date of birth, driver’s license number of the record holder, and fee payments. Also, remember to include the mailing address or fax number where you want the record sent.
For fax, send the written request to (573) 526-7367. There is an additional fax fee ($0.50 per page) for transmitting a driving record.
How to Request a Driver Record with Personal Information

If you’re requesting for your own driving record, you’ll just need to prepare a photo ID and pay the applicable fees at any Missouri license office.
Now, if you’re requesting another person’s driving record, you will need to complete the Driver License Record Holder Request Form and pay the fees at any Missouri license office. You will also need the consent of the record holder and a notary’s signature.

How Does the Missouri Point System Work?
Missouri follows a point system, which means you’ll get points on your driving record for every traffic citation.
Accumulating a certain number of points on your Missouri driving record can lead to license suspension or revocation.
The Department of Revenue will act accordingly should you receive these points on your license within a given period:
License suspension (8 or more points) |
|
---|---|
License revocation for one year |
|
Note: getting 5 points in 12 months will merit an accumulation advisory from the Department of Revenue.
After your license is reinstated after suspension or revocation, your points will be reduced to 4.
The good news is that Missouri drivers who don’t get any new points will be rewarded by a reduction in existing points, accordingly:
- 1 year: reduced by a third
- 2 years: reduced by half
- 3 years: reduced to zero
Note: while your points may be reduced to zero in the third year, your convictions will appear permanently on your Missouri driving record.
If you want a faster option to reduce these existing points, then you should complete a Driver Improvement Program authorized by the Fine Collections Center.
Best Driver Improvement Programs in Missouri
To remove points from your driving record (or avoid point assessment of your traffic ticket), you can request permission from the Department of Revenue or your court handler to attend an approved Driver Improvement course.
If they accept the request, then you’ll want to find an approved and reliable traffic school.
Speaking of which, 3 great online traffic schools come to mind.
The first one is iDriveSafely.
iDriveSafely never fails to impress with their course curriculum that’s both educational and fun. This online DIP tackles comprehensive course topics through engaging videos and animations for long-term retention.
Then, there’s GoToTrafficSchool.
Having trained over 4 million students, GoToTrafficSchool is one of the most reputable traffic schools in the US. An interesting feature with this school is the complete audio read-along feature in multiple languages.
Lastly, we have MyImprov Traffic School.
MyImprov was voted as the best traffic school with their hilarious (yet highly educational) skits and videos! Another great thing about MyImprov is that they have zero hidden fees, even for test retakes and certificate delivery.
Conclusion
Getting too many points on your Missouri driving record can lead to many losses, including your driving privileges!
To avoid that, you should regularly monitor your Missouri driving record. And since it is so easy to request for one, you don’t have any excuse to not check it every once in a while.
If you see that you’ve accumulated too many points already, you can choose to attend an online Driver Improvement Program to reduce it (or avoid it altogether).
